Studios LA Tour Top Deck Expansion
Universal City, CA
This 2,500 seat amphitheater was designed on the top level of an 8-story, terraced
parking structure. It consists of a stage house, full fly and wings, backstage
dressing rooms, restrooms and a control booth. We developed an innovative louvered
shade structure for the roof mounted from beams and tension cables to allow each
section to be adjusted for maximum wind and shade protection. A steel truss system
supports both the shade structure and the stage roof and was designed to be relocated
at a later date. This project won an AIA design award in 1990.
