Cherry Valley Wilderness Camp

Catalina, CA

Cherry Valley occupies a deep, narrow valley that opens onto a small, secluded cove. The 157-acre site is flooded during the winter and in recent years, a number of structures have been built directly in the flood path, endangering the wetlands. A master plan was needed to capture more usable land, preserve marine ecology, restore historic structures and wetlands and incorporate new, environmentally compatible buildings and campsites. The project required a 400-seat dining facility, a marine science center, staff offices and residences, a health center, scout shop, outdoor amphitheater, additional campsites, a new pier and boardwalk, a lighthouse and recreational facilities for land and aquatic activities.
